Personality & Traits

General Overview Charming, independent, energetic, and compassionate, Batu certainly can be felt in any crowd. Shaped by his intuitive quality, it allows him to read between the lines with curiosity and energy. Batu tends to see life as a big, complex puzzle where everything is connected. To him, It is like looking at things through a prism of emotion, compassion, and mysticism, and are always looking for a deeper meaning. It is these traits that have led him to not only be a great leader by understanding and driving the people he works with but also to be a great explorer, passionate, and always seeking something more.
Strengths & Weaknesses When it comes to exploring new places and new ideas Batu wants to go out and experience things and doesn’t hesitate to step out of his comfort zones to do so. The Captain is imaginative and open-minded, seeing all things as part of a big, mysterious puzzle called life. He enjoys both small talk and deep, meaningful conversations, which are just two sides of the same coin for him, and he's adept at steering conversations towards his desired subjects in ways that feel completely natural and unforced. It makes him an excellent communicator.

Something however that Batu has often struggled with in life is that he doesn’t take things at face value – he looks for underlying motives in even the simplest things. It’s not uncommon for him to lose a bit of sleep asking himself why someone did what they did, what it might mean, and what to do about it.
Ambitions Some day Batu would like to start a family even if the idea is extremely alien to his culture. Now that he’s getting his chance to explore the unknowns of the Gamma Quadrant he wants to lead his crew into making scientific discoveries. Perhaps one day he’ll even return to Efros Delta to visit his home world, perhaps.
Hobbies & Interests Batu has a hidden enjoyment for singing, something that came naturally to him as his people’s language is music based. Keeping up with some of his past he also enjoys swordplay and can be found in the holodeck in his off time, practicing his skills. He also enjoys running hiking/cave exploration programs, good coffee, and discussing galactic affairs.

Personal History Born to Yesui Ra-Ejine on October 24th, 2340, Batu Ra-Ejine is the last of his family line. Born on Efros Delta, he lived in one of the villages outside the major cities of the planet where more of the older ways were still observed and taught. His mother raised him, her various lovers in life helping here and there as there was no constant male figure in her life as was the norm in their society. Around the time Batu was seven tragedy struck however as Naussican pirates came looking for a shipment of Ore they were owed from the nearby mine that had not been delivered. Things turned south and several villagers were murdered, including his Mother. While Efrosian forces were able to catch the Naussicans with the assistance of Starfleet it didn't bring back the lives lost. Batu was sent to live at the orphanage within the local temple.

It was in the temple where Priestess Berude Ni-Dhorolas would raise Batu amongst the other orphans (which were very few), for the rest of the majority of his youth. As he was growing up she educated them and cared for them like a mother. She also shared the religious stories of their people with them, including the great concepts of the Warrior-Priests who had always protected and watched over Efros Delta for hundreds of years. Those stories stuck with the impressionable Batu who dreamed of a better life, and as a young boy, he wanted nothing more than to be a warrior-priest and free of his current lot in life. So much so he began to study swordplay amongst his other studies even just like they had known.

But as he grew with age Batu realized he was curious about the world around them, about the stars themselves. Often he would wander away from the temple to go camping and explore the wilds outside his settlement or to simply stargaze. Books and all the texts on sciences became his friends

When Batu was seventeen he was given a chance to go outside the village and into the capital. As fate would have it he would run into a group of Starfleet officers who had become lost after some early day drinks, one of which had fallen and injured his leg. Batu tended to the injured officer and led the inebriated group back to where they were supposed to be lodged at to a waiting CO who was rather angry. He also was very grateful for Batu and suggested the young man consider applying for the academy. It was something that stuck with him for a good while and was an answer to finally moving on in life...

Batu entered Starfleet Academy in the year 2358 with an interest in focusing on becoming a scientist. For his first four years at Starfleet Academy, the Efrosian worked his way through the sciences course, majoring in stellar cartography with a minor in exobiology while also working his way through the hearts of many female cadets. During his third year, he was lucky enough to be able to serve aboard Starbase 40 for his cadet cruise. He graduated in the year 2362, finishing in the top five percent of his class.

After the academy, Batu was assigned to the USS Fairchild as an astrobiology officer. A hard worker and dedicated individual, the young ensign made a name for himself on the science team and was eventually moved to the beta shift as a general science officer. His social personality and willingness to not hold back and always speak up led to the young Ensign pointing out his own observations about a strange disc-shaped station the crew encountered in the middle of nowhere during a survey mission. This observation led him to be assigned on the away team, joining among others the Chief Science Officer and ship's Executive Officer. The events on that mission led to his promotion to Lieutenant Junior Grade. A year later he was offered and accepted the role of Assistant Chief Science Officer when their current one accepted a promotion off the ship.

For the next three years, Batu began to learn the skills of leadership as he balanced his love of science at the same time. With strong mentors from the ship's Chief Science Officer and Executive Officer, the Efrosian went on after a period of time to become respected by the science team and command team as well. It was felt that Batu had a natural knack for leadership and when the opportunity within their task force came up for a new Chief Science Officer aboard the Yggdrasil, under encouragement he applied and was awarded the position and also named the new Second Officer aboard the ship. While Eranfel had begun to learn the basis of Command aboard the Fairchild it was aboard the Yggrdasil that he continued to learn more about the future of himself. One, he learned that his style of command was servant leadership, and two he realized he had a preference for smaller ships and the intimate atmosphere they brought with them.

His time aboard the Miranda-class Yggdrasil and working with its crew over four years felt like a whirlwind at times but during other periods it was some of the most rewarding and challenging moments Batu thanks to the Dominion War. Being apart of the first contact mission to the Draenel alongside his Captain, dealing with rogue gamma pulsars threatening inhabited planets, and working to provide critical support to Federation worlds during the war all of it showed Batu what he could do and then some. And because of that in the year 2376 after the war was over, he was offered the role of First Officer aboard the USS Kolob, an Intrepid-class starship. For the next six years, Batu found himself growing fond of a relentless crew of what he would come to call family. The Captain and he worked together like clockwork, a well-oiled machine where the two knew each other like the back of one another hands and were best friends. He was so comfortable he even turned down a command opportunity once because he felt the Kolob was home. But the second time Starfleet came knocking after his courage and performance dealing with the Kunshaya occupation of the Kreel homeworld his Captain made sure he listened this time. While it was hard to leave the family he had built with the Kolob behind he knew there was a new one waiting for him to mold all on his own with his ship.

So it came to be that one the spring of 2380 after completing his final command courses and waiting for the construction of his ship to finalize Batu was given command of the USS Komorkis, a Luna-class vessel all of his own. And now he is prepared to do what he loves best, to explore with no end in sight.
